You’ve probably heard the term Web 2.0 thrown around quite a bit recently – but if you’re not actually sure what Web 2.0 is, and then you’re not the only one! In a nutshell, web 2.0 refers to the new generation of web technologies that have transformed the internet into more than just text and graphics on a page.
Web 2.0 is about allowing people to interact, share, and communicate over the web – think blogs, social networks, video-sharing, Twitter and the like. We all know that these services are incredibly popular, but how can you leverage them to help your affiliate sales?
There’s a fine line between proactive internet marketer and spammer, and web 2.0 marketing isn’t about posting affiliate links everywhere you can on social media sites. We’re talking about using social media to build connections, drive traffic, and in some cases, improve SEO.
In this article, I’m going to give you a few ideas on how to use some specific social media and Web 2.0 strategies to attract traffic to your site. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and you should use your own creativity to come up with other ways to use these platforms. Just remember though that these sites can have quite strict terms of service, so make sure you read them thoroughly before you start promoting your business.
Squidoo Lens/Hubpages:
Websites like Squidoo and Hubpages allow you to create your own page on any subject you like. These pages are like information portals on a particular topic. You can create them for free and link them to your primary affiliate site. The fastest way to set up a page is to take one of your existing, more general articles, reword it a bit to avoid search engine penalties and add in a little more content.
You’ve pretty much got the basis for your page. Then just insert one or two links with good anchor text to your site (no more otherwise you might find your page deleted for spam). Squidoo and Hubpages can be a great source of links as well as traffic, and they help get your website indexed by the search engines faster as they regularly spider these sites for new content.
YouTube:
If writing isn’t your thing, then another great way of doing affiliate reviews is to record a video and post it on YouTube. Don’t worry; you don’t have to go on camera if you don’t want to!
Screencast software like Camtasia can record what’s on your screen while you narrate with a microphone. You can use presentation software like PowerPoint to create slides. Apart from the above social media strategies, one should implement effective SEO strategies. Search Engine Optimization SEO is a must do exercise.
