The most common form of email marketing is the newsletter. This can be either a pre-written auto-responder series (a series of emails that go out automatically at certain intervals after the user has subscribed) or a periodic newsletter that you write and send out to your list every week, fortnight or month.
You can use both types of strategies with your list; however, I would recommend starting with an auto-responder series, as it doesn’t require much upkeep once you’ve written it.
A newsletter series allows you to market to the same people over and over – meaning you are more likely to convince people who are ‘on the fence’ as well as make repeat sales of other products to the same customers.
So how do you get people to sign up to your newsletter? People don’t just want to get a whole bunch of advertising in their inbox – they get that already. It’s called spam, and it’s NOT what we’re talking about. You want to offer people value.
When you’re first starting out with email marketing, you might not want to start out with anything to ambitious. Something like a 6-part mini course on a certain subject is a good way to being. For example you could write a 6 part mini-course on selling on eBay. You could cover subjects like finding profitable niches online, sourcing wholesale products and writing compelling auctions.
Even if you aren’t terribly familiar with the subject, if you put the time in to research something, you are saving people time by compiling information that they would otherwise need to search for themselves. And if you can write it in an interesting and compelling way, then your perception of value will go through the roof!
