We all know that every 9 out of 10 internet connected PCs are infected with spyware. But do you know how spyware gets into PC and how to remove spyware from PC. This article throws a brief synopsis on spyware and its removal techniques.

Technically, any software that gathers information from your PC without your consent is called as spyware. Of course, there are a number of ways for spyware program to get infiltrated into the PC. But in majority of the cases, viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are designed in such a way to install spyware.

Spyware infiltrates into a PC via a number of ways. I don’t want myself to be too much technical to explain this concept. The article clearly explains what these common ways are and how they related with the PC for causing spyware attacks.

1. Finding Holes in the Web browser:

The spyware gets installed in the PC’s browser. Starting from ActiveX control, BHO to a standalone executable, spyware can be anywhere. Moreover, it can also install itself via ActiveX control. Some think it as a trusted site but in reality it is fooling you.

2. Tagging Along in e-mail:

E-mail programs that display HTML e-mail (such as Outlook, Outlook Express, and Mozilla Thunderbird) are often subject to the same vulnerabilities that have beset Microsoft Internet Explorer in recent years. Often, just displaying a mail message is sufficient for the spyware to get loaded in the user’s computer. This is because Outlook is using the same vulnerable DLLs to display HTML as is used by Internet Explorer.

3. Hiding in Software Downloads:

Many downloadable software programs and programs that you can purchase online or over the counter contain spyware programs that are silently installed when you install the software. Make sure that you always read End User License Agreement (EULA) before installing any software on your PC.

4. Peer-to-Peer File Sharing:

Technically, there is nothing wrong with the usage of P2P file sharing networks but in majority of the cases it is used for illegal activities. The main use of P2P network is that you can share music, videos, photos, software, media etc. But this process makes your PC vulnerable to spyware and viruses.
